With just fresh green grapes, some citrus juice, and sugar you can make your very own batch of Sour Patch Grapes. They're a healthy way to indulge in the sweet and sour flavors of the classic candy.

What You'll Need to Make Sour Candy Grapes

These sour patch candy grapes come together with just 4 ingredients.

    • Green seedless grapes: Green seedless grapes are ideal, but red grapes work well too.
    • Lemon: Freshly squeezed lemon juice is used to coat the grapes.
    • Lime: Freshly squeezed lime juice is also used to coat the grapes.
    • Sweetener: Use white granulated sugar or for a no-calorie sweetener use monk fruit.  You can even use a combination of the two!

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Use berries instead: Forgo the grapes and use blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries.
    • Change up the citrus juice: Use a different combination of citrus juice whether it be orange and grapefruit or a combination of one of these with either lemon or lime.
    • Add some crunch: Dip the grapes in shredded coconut, chopped nuts or seeds for some crunch.
    • Make a skewer: Put a few grapes on a skewer and serve sour grape skewers.
    • Mix in some spice: Add a touch of cayenne pepper to the sugar mixture or stir in some cinnamon. Adding some Tajin would taste amazing too!

How to Make Sour Patch Grapes

Here are the instructions on how to make these vegan candied grapes.

    1. Get the grapes ready: Wash your grapes and remove them from the vine.
Squeezing lemon juice over the bowl of grapes.
    1. Cover the grapes in juice: Place the grapes in a bowl and squeeze the lemon and lime juice over them. Use your hands to make sure every grape is covered in juice.
Rolling the grapes in the sugar mixture.
    1. Roll the grapes: Roll each grape in the mixture of sugar and sweetener and then put them back in the bowl and place in the freezer for 2-3 hours.
    1. Serving the grapes: Serve them up and enjoy!

    Serving Suggestions

These sweet and sour grapes go well with anything as a sweet treat.  Here are some great examples:

    • Pair them with these Vegan Veggie Pinwheels for a sweet and savory snack or light lunch.
    • Make for your next party or get-together along with this Caviar Dip or this Italian Bread Dipping Oil.

    Recipe Tips

    • Choose firm grapes: Make sure your grapes are firm to the touch and not soft or they’ll get mushy.
    • Use fresh juice: Though bottled lemon and lime juice may be easier, I suggest you use fresh juice for the best fresh and tart flavor.
    • Balance the sweetness: Use as much or as little sugar as you like to balance the tartness of the citrus juice.
    • Make sure your grapes are dry: Wash and dry your grapes before dipping them in the citrus juice as you want as much of the juice to adhere as possible.
    • Coat evenly: Try your best to coat the grapes with the juice and the sugar evenly.
    • Make ahead and storing: These candied grapes are ideal to make ahead of time as they need to freeze for a few hours. You can make them a few days ahead of when you want to serve them and let them sit in the freezer until you are ready for them.  Leftovers keep in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
