What You'll Need to Make This Olive Oil Bread Dip

    • Baguette: Use a fresh, crispy baguette for the best flavor and texture.
    • Olive oil: Extra virgin olive oil is always my go-to olive oil but any type will work.
    • Balsamic vinegar: Balsamic vinegar balances the flavors of this dipping oil.
    • Artichoke hearts: Canned artichokes add flavor and texture to this dipping oil.
    • Garlic cloves: Fresh garlic cloves, minced add a rich garlicky taste.
    • Olives: Chopped green or black olives add a natural salty flavor.
    • Sun-dried tomatoes: Chopped sun-dried tomatoes in oil add a deep savory flavor and some texture.
    • Basil: Chopped fresh basil adds a pop of color and a deep pungent taste.
    • Chili flakes: Add as much or as little chili flakes as you like depending on your spice preference.
    • Lemon zest: Use the zest from half a lemon to add a touch of tartness to the bread oil.
    • Herbs: Use a combination of oregano, rosemary, black pepper and salt.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Change up the bread: Though this oil tastes amazing on a baguette, it will also taste great on focaccia, sourdough, or ciabatta.
    • Gluten-Free: For gluten-free choose a crusty gluten-free bread.
    • Add vegan cheese: Stir in some grated vegan parmesan for more flavor.
    • Modify the seasonings: Use your favorite dried or fresh herbs to change the taste.

    Recipe Tips

    • Storing: Leftovers keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.  I do not recommend freezing this recipe.
    • Make Ahead of Time: If you want to prep this dish ahead of time you can chop all the add-ins and toss them with the oil and balsamic mixture just before serving or prepare the dipping up but wait to add the fresh basil just before serving.
    • Hold the fresh herbs: If you aren’t going to serve the dipping oil right away, add the fresh basil just before serving so it doesn’t wilt and lose its flavor.
    • Use good quality olive oil: Olive oil is the real hero in this dipping oil for bread so do your best to get a good quality one.
    • Toast the bread: Toast the bread just before you serve the dip so it is nice and crisp.
