About a year ago, I created a recipe for frozen yogurt cups and they became one of the most popular recipes I've ever created! They've been viewed over 3.5 million times on Pinterest and saved over 100K times! While it seems like so many people loved this recipe, I did receive a few comments from people who told me that they really enjoyed the flavor, but they don't do well with frozen treats because they have sensitive teeth. I wanted to create a solution to this problem, so I came up with these granola cups which have the same flavors, but are a warm and crunchy version of my frozen yogurt cups. And I have to say, these might even be my new favorite!
By the way, here is the original frozen yogurt cup recipe that I was referencing above. If frozen treats are more your jam, feel free to check out that recipe here.
What you will need for your granola cups
Granola Cup Ingredients
- 2 cups oats
- Β½ cup peanut butter
- Β½ cup maple syrup
Toppings
- dairy free yogurt
- strawberries
- raspberries
- blueberries
- blackberries
- mango
- kiwi
How to make them
- To a large bowl, combine the oats, peanut butter, and maple syrup. Mix them well (it helps if you use your hands).
- Grab a muffin pan and lightly grease six muffin holes with coconut oil. This is an important step as this will help you get the granola cups out much easier.
- Split the granola filling evenly between the six muffin holes.
- Next, use your hands or a spoon to shape the granola into little cups, forming a hollow middle.
- Bake the granola cups in the oven for 20 minutes at 350F/ 175C.
- Give the cups at least 30 minutes to cool off before removing them from the muffin pan. Otherwise they might fall apart.
- When they are ready to be removed from the muffin pan, gently slide a butter knife along the edges of the cups, to loosen them.
- Take out the granola cups, fill them with yogurt and add sliced fruit on top.

What can I use instead of peanut butter?
Gaby Dimova
Any nut butter is fine! π

Canβt use any nut butter due to a severe nut allergy. Is there anything else that can be used?
Gaby Dimova
Try sun butter! It's made from sunflower seeds and many people with allergies like it as an alternative π

Can they be frozen? If so for how long? Can they be reheated from frozen or should they be thawed?
Gaby Dimova
Hi there! I haven't tried freezing them so I'm not sure, but please let me know if you do try it!

These look delicious. This recipe would change up breakfast.
Gaby Dimova

Can these be stored and for how long ?
Gaby Dimova
I store these in the fridge for 4-5 days in an airtight container. Hope that helps!

Anyone find that this recipe made way more than 6 muffin tin's worth? I added mini chocolate chips and sliced almonds but didn't think it would increase the batter that much. I made 9 granola cups!
Gaby Dimova
I did make my granola cups super thick, so it's definitely possible that if you made yours thinner, they would make more π

Can you use steel cut oats?
Gaby Dimova
I have not personally tested that, so I cannot say for certain, but I don't see why not! π

Can any kind of syrup do or does it have to be maple syrup? Can I mix maple and corn syrup together, trying to use it up? Thanks.
Gaby Dimova
As long as it's a liquid sweeter, it'll work π
Trish
These were delicious!! I followed the recipe, greased up my pan, and let them cool for half an hour but the tops of my cups still pretty much fell apart. Should I just be packing them in more tightly? Any tips?
Gaby Dimova
Hi there! I'm so sorry that they fell apart! I have to be very gently and use a knife to slide on the sides of the cups so they come out easily, but you can definitely make them inside a muffin liner so that you can just peel it off after they are done baking! I hope that helps!

Did you use a standard sized muffin tin? If using a large muffin tin, how long do you suggest the granola cups are cooked for?
Gaby Dimova
Hi there! I used a standard sized muffin tin so the cooking time here is written for that size! Hope that helps π

One of my favorite recipes ever! I've been making it for my kids for months
Gaby Dimova
So happy that you like it!! π

Can these be done with less maple syrup ? Half a cup seems like a lot of sugar to add to an otherwise healthy sounding snack
Gaby Dimova
I have not personally tried it, but you might be able to replace half of the maple syrup with the same amount of peanut butter- you just want to make sure that there is enough liquid ingredients to bind the oats together. I just can't say if it will work bc I haven't tried it!
elena
Hi is the calories per 1 or for the 6?
Gaby Dimova
per one!
Deborah
What kind of oats is good for this recipe.
Gaby Dimova
Any kind will work but I used quick oats π
