Energize your day with the vibrant, spicy, and invigorating flavor of homemade ginger shots. Ginger and turmeric are two of nature's most potent superfoods with plenty of immune-building, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant benefits! They're easy to make at home with just six simple ingredients in a blender or juicer.

What Are Ginger Shots Good For?

Ginger shots are simple way to enjoy the health benefits of ginger and turmeric in simple immune booster shots! Ginger shots can aid in digestion, boost your immunity, and also provide you with some inflammation reducing benefit.

While you can buy store-bought ginger shots, making your own ginger shots at home is quite easy and more affordable too! Plus you can make them exactly how you like them and even add other ingredients to make them easier to drink.

What You'll Need to Make a Ginger Turmeric Shot

Here's a quick look at the main ingredients you need for this ginger lemon shot recipe. Be sure to check the recipe card further down the page for the full list and quantities of each.

    • Citrus: These little shots of ginger juice are made with orange and lemon. Both contain vitamin C which is important for healing the body which is why it's often recommended as a supplement when you're sick with a cold or the flu.
    • Ginger: It's essential to use fresh ginger when making these homemade ginger shots. It has the best flavor but also more health benefits than using dried powder.
    • Turmeric: You also want to use fresh turmeric if you can find it. It's often available in large grocery stores. Look for it close to the ginger and garlic.
    • Cayenne pepper: Adds just bit of spice but also brings it's own health benefits to this turmeric shot.
    • Liquid: Your shots need liquid added to get the right consistency. You can use regular water or coconut water.

    Substitutions and Variations

There's lots of flexibility in this ginger shot recipe. Here are a few recommendations:

    • Add Some Black Pepper: The piperine in black pepper helps the body more easily absorb the antioxidant benefits of the turmeric.
    • Want a Bit of Sweetness: You can add a fruit such as pineapple or mango which bring their own health benefits along with making your ginger shot a bit sweeter. You can also use your favorite vegan liquid sweetener such as maple syrup as well.
    • Swap the Fresh Lemon Juice: You can also use lime juice instead.
    • Liquid: Instead of coconut water or regular water you can also use pineapple or orange juice as well. I suggest choosing an option that doesn't have any additional sugar added to it. It will provide a bit of natural sweetness for a sweeter ginger shot.

How to Make Homemade Ginger Shots

These ginger turmeric shots go together in just a few simple steps. You can easily make a batch for the week so let's get started making this easy recipe. If you have a juicer, all you need to do is prep the items in step one and then add them to your juicer.

Below, I'm walking you how to make ginger shots without a juicer!

    1. Wash all of the produce. Cut the peel from the orange and lemons. Chop up the ginger and turmeric. Don't worry about peeling it!
    2. Place the orange, lemon, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, and coconut water in a blender.

Adding the ginger turmeric shot ingredients to a blender.
    1. Blend everything together.
    2. Pour the mixture over a sieve to separate out the pulp. I transferred my pulp to my a juice press in order to separate the pulp from the juice. It basically did the same thing.
Blending the ingredients in a small blender.
Straining the juice using a juice press.
    1. Pour the ginger shots into small glass bottles or you can use a larger bottle and then pour it into shot-sized glasses when you're ready to enjoy them!

    How to Store

Store ginger shots in an airtight container such as jars or bottles. You can portion them out individually to easily grab one and drink or use a larger bottle if you don't have the small ones. Serve them up in a shot glass when you're ready to enjoy.

Keep them in the fridge for up to a week though they will lose potency the longer they sit.

If you want to make a large batch of these healthy shots and freeze them you can do that too! Freezing also works to retain the health benefits of your fresh juice shots.

You can store them in the freezer for up three months. An ice cube tray is perfect for storing them in small amounts. Thaw them out in the fridge overnight.

    Recipe Tips

    • Shake it up! Be sure to give your fresh ginger shots a shake before drinking them.
    • Wash your produce. Especially the ginger and turmeric which you aren't peeling.
    • Intense flavor. The flavor of gingers shots is pretty potent and intense. You can mix it with fruit juice, tea, or sparkling water to make it easier to consume or if you prefer sipping rather than taking it all in one shot.
    • Serving Idea: Add it to smoothies to give your smoothie a boost! Give it a try with this green smoothie.
    • Use a fine mesh strainer. This will remove more of the solids left after blending. If you don't have one a nut milk bag or cheesecloth work well too.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any risks to drinking ginger shots?

The flavor of ginger is quite intense and may cause heartburn or even an upset stomach in some people. It's best to start small and see how your stomach handles them before drinking them regularly. If you have any health concerns or taking medication you should talk to your doctor before adding them to your diet.

When is the best time to take a ginger shot?

You can enjoy them any time though they may work better on an empty stomach as your body can more quickly absorb the nutrients.

Can I make ginger turmeric shots with powdered ginger and turmeric?

For the ginger you should really use fresh ginger root. It tastes better, has more potency, and is readily available. Turmeric may be more difficult to find fresh in the grocery store, and in a pinch you can use powdered. I suggest starting with one teaspoon of turmeric and then you can add more to achieve the preferred flavor.

What do ginger shots taste like?

They have an intense spicy kick. Ginger is naturally spicy while the turmeric brings a bit of earthiness and warmth, and the lemon juice a bit of tang. If it's too intense you can always dilute it even more or even add more orange juice to sweeten it.

very potent! I doubled the recipe. One pound of ginger seems like a lot. Is a pound correct? Other recipes say “ one knob “

great recipe! but i wonder why do you seperate the fruit skin/meat from the juice when done in a blender? wouldn't it even be more healthy to consume everything altogether?
