Happy 2021 everyone! What a year 2020 was, and here's to hoping that this new year will be many times better! I love the start of a new year, and I thought I would celebrate the start of this one with one of my favorite delicious and indulgent treats- vegan chocolate chip cinnamon rolls.

This recipe is actually inspired by two talented foodies. The recipe for the vegan cinnamon rolls was inspired by the YouTube channel Tasty, and the idea to add chocolate chips to cinnamon rolls (genius!) came from Stephanie from https://stephaniessweets.com/. I combined both of their ideas and added a few twists of my own to come up with this delicious and fun dessert recipe!

    chocolate chip cinnamon rolls

    What you will need

    Dough Ingredients

    • 2 cups dairy free milk
    • ½ cup melted vegan butter
    • ¼ cup sugar
    • 1 packet of dry yeast
    • 5 ¼ cup flour

    Filling Ingredients

    • ¾ cup vegan butter
    • ¾ cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoon cinnamon
    • ½ cup chocolate chips

    Icing Ingredients

    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoon cacao or cocoa
    • 2 tablespoon dairy free milk
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla
    chocolate chip cinnamon rolls

How to make your chocolate chip cinnamon rolls

    • Start by adding the milk, butter, sugar, and yeast to a large bowl. Make sure the milk is at room temperature and that the butter is melted, but they can't be too hot, or the yeast will die and won't rise.
    • After adding the yeast, let it sit for at least five minutes, without stirring. Next, add five cups of flour to the bowl and mix it well to form a dough.
    • Cover the bowl with a towel and let it sit (so that it can rise) for 30 minutes.
    • Then add another ¼ cup of flour to the dough.
    • Roll out the dough using a rolling pin.
    • Spread out the butter on top of the dough, then sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon mixture, and add the chocolate chips.
    • Roll up the dough. Cut it into pieces (about 1 inch thick).
    • Transfer the rolls into a pan.
    • Allow them to sit for another 30 minutes, so they can rise.
    • Then bake them for 25 minutes at 350*F. This recipe made about 18 rolls for me.
    • While the rolls are cooling, combine the ingredients for the icing and drizzle it over the rolls.

I also made a recipe video of the whole process. If any part of the explanation was confusing, I hope this will help!
